Two dates for wine-lovers to remember: 22nd July - St Magdalener parish fair and 10th August - Lorenzi Night. Bolzano is the essence of a wine town. Vineyards of the vintners’ cooperative and of more than 20 private wineries extend from right in the centre to all around the town. With its 510 hectares of vineyards, Bolzano has around 10% of South Tyrol’s total wine-growing area. The town is especially proud of its two autochthonous or local wines: Sankt Magdalener and Lagrein.

Marianne and Agostino Prousch opened their Restaurant Anita in the Obstmarkt back in 1963, focusing on traditional food and friendly service. Five children, including Anita and Aldina, who have both grown up in the business and who run the restaurant today. Back then there were hardly any other restaurants in the square, and twice as many fruit and vegetable stalls as there are today. They are constantly re-inventing new variations of local cuisine, which, accompanied by their select wines, make Anita a favourite meeting place for locals and an insider’s tip for visitors.
