Longing for a spot of competitive sport and unforgettable races? The big sporting events of the best season attract pros and amateurs of electrifying sports to the capital city of South Tyrol. The season kicks off with diving, one of the sports which is very much at home in Bolzano. A hundred or so divers will be performing dazzling acrobatics at the Lido di Viale Trieste from 5 to 7 July, when “Fina Diving Grand Prix 2017” makes its way to Bolzano. With thirty nations invited to participate, the only Italian meet of this prestigious event is all set to be a spectacular experience.

Then it’s time to take to the pedals and spend the night on the cycle paths of Via Claudia Augusta, from Bolzano to Resia: On 5 July, Bike Night is coming to Bolzano. The tour begins in Ferrara and passes through a number of cities including Bolzano, Udine, Verona and Milan. Everybody pedals together along one hundred kilometres of cycle paths which lead from the city centre to trails in the countryside. It begins at midnight and ends the following morning to celebrate day break on Lake Resia.

If you’re a fan of extreme sports on mountain trails, on the other hand, the 5th "Südtirol Ultra Skyrace" is scheduled for 28 to 30 July: At 121 kilometres and 7,554 m of elevation difference, it is the most extreme mountain race in the world. Along the impervious trails of the “Hufeisentour” high roads in the Sarentino Alps, athletes compete against each other – and themselves – to complete the route in a maximum time of forty hours. Ultra trail runner Daniel Jung, holder of the record, plans to beat his own record this year and finish the race in less than seventeen hours.

And then it’s back on the saddle for one of the most popular events in the cycling world. From 30 July to 5 August, the “Giro of the Dolomites” is back once more, with six spectacular stages. Local sports fans and participants from all corners of the globe have the chance to cycle the most beautiful passes of the Dolomites and take part in the full week of the Giro, or alternatively, cycle either the mini-stage of three days or a single stage. Maurizio Fondriest, ex-world champion road racer, has confirmed his participation in the coming edition.
