APERITIF WITH ÖTZI AT THE SOUTH TYROL MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY
The undisputed star of Bolzano: Ötzi, the famed ice mummy who, together with artefacts dating back over 5,000 years, has been on exhibit at the Museum of Archaeology since 1998. 25 years have passed since he was first discovered, and Ötzi is now not only the star of the museum created in his honour, but has also been the inspiration for comic books and fantasy films. A trip to the museum is a great chance to meet this emblematic character who, although he has been the subject of extensive research, remains a continued source of ever-new discoveries. The mummy is perfectly preserved in a cold cell; tools and clothing which were unearthed during the find are also on exhibit, and visitors can enjoy an accurate reconstruction of how he would have looked in life.
A special temporary exhibition on the history of copper accompanies the main exhibition, and is extremely popular with visitors. “HEAVY METAL – How copper changed the world” reveals a wealth of fascinating facts on this metal, which has been used since prehistoric times. With expert guides, interactive multimedia stations and projections, even young children will enjoy this fascinating trip through history. After the exhibition, you can stop off for a drink with Ötzi. "Heavy Metal & Hugo" is on the programme for the first Tuesday of every month, and drinks and snacks are included in the entrance ticket.
