Dance beneath the stars - Waltz around Walther
On 17th July everything will revolve around the statue of Walther von der Vogelweide in the Waltherplatz, with music and dance turning the square into an open-air ballroom. So successful was last year’s initiative by Hotel Città to celebrate its 100th anniversary by turning the town’s main square into an open-air ballroom, that it has been decided to repeat the event this year. The opening waltz will be led by Tania Cagnotto, one of the world’s leading sports divers and the pride of the town. The waltz atmosphere will be further enhanced by the students of the ‘Spetzger’ and ‘Vanity Dance’ dancing schools, who, in their 19th-century period costumes will mingle with the dancing public. There will also be numerous ‘taxi-dancers’ offering their services to teach members of the public the basic steps and also to partner any singles who wish to join in. For those who want to do the full Monty, they can have 19th-century make-up applied, have their hair done in historic style and let themselves be photographed in vintage cars. Many of the shops and bars around the square will enter into the spirit of the occasion. In the case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to the 18th July. The tourist office, together with Bolzano’s hotels and restaurants, offers special waltz-weekend packages including an overnight stay, a welcome aperitif and a guided tour of the town.
