The 2018/2019 programme at the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano features tales of ascent and decline, stories of redemption, of distant countries hovering in suspense, comedy, gravity.

The season opens with Tempo di CHET. La versione di Chet Baker, the story of Chet Baker, famed trumpet player and one of the most controversial celebrities of the twentieth century. The show, on stage from 8 to 11 November, documents his life from his early days until his death. Next on the billboard is celebrated Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth, brought on stage by director Serena Sinigaglia and running from 15 November to 2 December: A story of ambition, betrayal, love and the inevitability of destiny.

In the show Dio ride (6 to 9 December), narrator Moni Ovadia will be bringing Citizen Rabinovich, stereotypical Russian Jew of humour, to the stage. Two cultures meet on stage with TURANDOT (from 10 to 13 January). Marco Plini will be conducting an ensemble of Italian and Chinese musicians and the actors from the Beijing National Opera House. Piccoli Crimini coniugali (Partners in Crime) will be taking the stage from 24 to 27 January, a compelling confrontation between the protagonists and a tale of tender, ironic, cutting wit. The universal themes of dignity, mercy and redemption lie at the heart of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, the tale of redeemed convict Jean Valjean and his antagonist Javert, on stage from 31 January to 3 February.

Comedy that breaks down the clichés governing every bourgeois society: The Importance of Being Earnest will be presented from February 28th to March 3rd. The tale of the young Nina and of the tormented Konstantin will be narrated in the theatrical production of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, brought to the stage by Marco Sciaccaluga and the Teatro Stabile of Genova from 7 to 10 March.

Russia’s Slava Polunin will lead the audience into a magical universe filled with dreams and evoking the world of childhood in SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW, staged from 3 to 7 April while the problems facing Italy today are the theme of La Bancarotta (The Bankrupted Merchant) by Carlo Goldoni, rewritten by Venetian author Vitaliano Trevisan. Performances at the Stadttheater/ Teatro Comunale of Bolzano are in German and Italian.
